On Wednesday, April 27, at about 11:30 a.m., Sonny Cross's (class of 53) step son, Mark Coleman, was robbed and shot at his business on the lot of Coleman's Motors at 2612 Lamar.
He was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis for emergency surgery. Mark, age 40, is the son of Sonny's wife Helen. He has a wife and 2 boys. Ironically, another son of Helen's was killed in a car wreck exactly 20 years ago this very same date.

Though we temporarily lost track of Billy Hayes, by contacting his brother we now have a new address for Billy. His address is now: 6676 Jessica Dr. Bartlett, Tn. 38135. His telephone number is 377-3696.
Since Billy is not in good health, let's cheer him up with some calls and cards. Billy was one of the original planners of our 1947 reunion group. We've missed seeing him.

Following the death of her daughter, Jeanette Whitehead, Charlene Davis Norvell suffered a mild stroke and was hospitalized in Jackson, Tn. Charlene is now in rehab at the Baptist Desoto Hospital. Many of our classmates attended the funeral and visited Charlene in the hospital in Jackson. Our prayers,sympathy, and best wishes for a quick recovery are with Charlene.

In the Sunday, April 17th, Commercial Appeal is an obituary on H.C. Fryar Jr, of Memphis, age 77. He died April 15th. Services will be at noon Wendesday, April 20 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Mr. Fryar, the widower of Elizabeth Lee Fryar, leaves a son Thomas Curtis Fryar Of Memphis and seven grandchildren. I do not know the class year Mr. Fryer was in, but his age would indicated he was in the class of 1946 or 1947.

In the Commercial Appeal obituries on Saturday, April 16th, was the notice about the death of Mrs. Lillie Myrtle Minton of Millington Tennessee, age 94. Services will at noon Monday at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel. Mrs. Minton, the widow of Robert W. Minton, leaves two daughters, Louise Miller of Millington and Martha Ann Minton Lawrence of Memphis who was in the South Side Class of 1951, a son, Marvin A. Minton of Cordova, who was in the class of 1955, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-granchildren and four great-great-children. The family requests any memorials be sent to American Heart Association.

Evelyn Smith Lawo of Memphis, age 92, died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Evelyn must have been in the class of 1931 or close to that because of her age. She leaves a daughter, Patricia Lawo of Memphis

Martha Durham Richey, age 73, class of 1951, passed away on April 10, 2005. Martha was a Navy wife for 30 years, always on the move. She leaves her children, Donna, Mike and Laurie and her only grandson, Drew. She was a tireless worker recently at Overton Park Health Care Center until her health forced her to retire.

Dale McDonald Fink, of Memphis, age 66, widow of Harry (Bo) Fink died on the morning of April 9, 2005 at Methodist hospital in Memphis. Her death was from complications following by-pass heart surgery approximately two weeks previously.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Forest Hill Funeral Home East. Both Dale and her husband Bo attended South Side in the 1950's and lived in Fort Pickering. Dale's address is 1215 Gherald, Memphis, TN. 38122. She leaves two sons, Terry Fink of Memphis and Barry Fink of Dallas; two brothers, John McDonald of Shreveport and Terry McDonald of Memphis, and two sisters, Margaret Louise and Marie, both of Memphis.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

He was a member of Mineral Wells Methodist Church. He was the husband of Dorothy H. Garner for 55 years. He leaves a daughter, Debra K. Garner of Olive Branch, two sister, Laura Neil Garner Brewer of Memphis and Fay Garner Ellis of Braggs, Oklahoma who was in the South Side Class of 1955. Wendy Harbison Raburn, of Horn Lake Mississippi, age 49, registered nurse and bone marrow transplant coordinator for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, died Saturday at her home. Services will be at noon Tuesday, April 5th at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis with burial in Memorial Park. She was a member of Central Church. Mrs. Raburn, the wife of Steve D. Raburn, also leaves two daughters, Morgan Virginia Raburn and Meagan Kathanne Deeb, and a son, Madison Lee Raburn, all of Horn Lake; her mother Kathaline Bigelow Harbison of Memphis, and two sisters, Debra Kay Harbison of Memphis and Tammy Fay Houghton of Cumming, Georgia. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Jude.
Wendy's mother, Kathaline Bigelow Harbison is a class of 47 South Side graduate and her deceased father, Harold "Budgie" Harbison was also in the class of 47.

Ruby Wall of Southaven Mississippi, age 87, died recently in March of 2005. I believe she was in the class of 36. Ruby has 3 sisters who attended South Side, Louise Wall Walker, of Southaven, class of 40, and twin sisters, Dorris Wall Wilkerson, of Olive Branch Mississippi, class of 53, and Dorthy Wall of Walls Mississippi, class of 53.
