Posted by Josephus at 8:51, on Monday, April 30, 2007

Jane had open heart surgery recently at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to repair and partially replace her mitral valve. After a 2-month convalescence, she is recovering nicely and is back at work. The worse part of her recovery, she says, is having to be on the blood thinner, Cumadin which she hopes will not be long term.

Update on Jack Hogan, class of 51 & thanks to Jim Wallace, class of 51!

Posted by TerryWilliamson51 at 19:44, on Saturday, April 21, 2007

I went by the Atrium Re-Hap yesterday and walked in to see Jack Hogan. Jack has been in 2 hospitals and this re-hap since January 9th without getting out or going home. Add to that, he has no one to go home to. The last time I went by, he was much better and talked to me an hour. He was so much better then, I was shocked yesterday when I walked into his room. He was lying there with his mouth wide open and his face was very red. He had his oxygen tube in his throat and he just did not look well at all. The nurse that was standing there told me his oxygen level had dropped low and they were giving him oxygen. She told him I was there and he opened his eyes and reached up with his hand. I took his hand and told him I was not going to stay. He nodded and closed his eyes again. As I said, I was shocked at what I saw. Jack is just not getting better. I'm afaid he is in for bad times. PLEASE-keep him in your thoughts and prayers--He is bad need of them now.-----------
I need to tell you that Jim Wallace, who was in the class of 51 with Jack and me, is taking care of Jack's bill paying, watching his house and doing the things that our spouse or family member would do. When we were young boys, Jack and I lived on Sardis near A.B.Hill School and Jim lived on Latham at Olive almost in sight of the school. I'd like to commend and thank Jim Wallace for all he is doing and has done for Jack in this time of need. Without Jim, Jack would be in a lot of trouble with his bills and other things. THANK YOU JIM WALLACE.

Update - Dot "Monger" Dalton

Posted by Josephus at 9:05, on Sunday, April 15, 2007

I talked to Lewis yesterday and he and Dot were in the Rehab Center Cafeteria having breakfast. Dot had some cereal, toast, juice, and fruit. Breakfast in the cafeteria, how ordinary for us but how extraordinary for Dot. After having a stroke, I imagine a simple little act such as this seems new and wonderful.

Dot will be in rehab for some time. She is now able to move her left arm and leg but still has no feeling in them. Her spirits are high and her faith in the Lord hasn't diminished. Please keep her and Lewis in your prayers.

If you would like to send Dot a card, send it to:

A note from Milton Hallmark, class of 50,of Tucson Arizona.

Dear friends,

Barbara and I will be traveling to Memphis TN. tomorrow (Tuesday April 3) to attend the funeral of my mother-in-law (Wardie Lincoln) who died on March 31. Visitation for Wardie's family was on April 4 with the funeral service at 10 a.m. on April 5th. Both were held at Forest Hills Cemetery Midtown.

Wardie is the mother of my deceased, beloved wife Elizabeth, (Liz). Liz died on January 2, 2000 after over 47 years of marriage. Liz started and directed the Friendship International organization in Tucson for several years prior to her death. Friendship International was an organization dedicated to ministering to the wives of foreign students that attended the University of Arizona. This ministry included teaching English language, crafts, shopping and also being along side when babies were born.

I have always been close to Wardie, especially after Liz died. We will miss Wardie, but rejoice in the knowledge that she is now with the Lord with all the pain and suffering gone.

May each of you have a blessed day!
Milton Hallmark

"Partnering" with Lou Pritchett '49

Posted by Josephus at 13:11, on Monday, April 2, 2007

Robert McCaskill and I have had many conversations about how proud we are of the accomplishments of South Side Scrapper Alumni. Many of them have affected local, regional, and national policies, laws, architecture, medicine, etc., but it is a rare thing for someone to affect the entire planet as Lou Pritchett has done. His "Partnering" concept has changed the way America does business and the ripple effect has influenced the entire world.

Lou, a Vice President of Sales and Customer Development for Procter & Gamble at the time, had an idea that was brought to fruition following a canoe trip with Sam Walton in the early 1980's. Explaining the details of Lou's idea is not in the scope of this article, let us just say that the result has affected every one of you and has put a little more change in your pocket, not to mention the freshness of the product you are purchasing. I'm sure you can appreciate that.

Lou's "Partnering" concept has such significant, and might I add "ethical", value that it is being taught at the Harvard Business School.
