Dot Selman Rider just had emergency surgery.

John Rider's sister, Sandy Rider Walker, class of 63, just called me and told me that her sister-in-law, Dot Selman Rider, class of 51, had emergency surgery Thursday, August 14 in Mobile Alabama. Her colon ruptured and she is seriously ill. Dot's husband, John Rider, class of 51, just recently passed away on July 7th. Keep Dot and her family in your prayers during this hard time.

Jim Dollar '54 emailed me that he had heard that Harold DeMarrero's father had passed away some time within the last week. If anyone has any information about this or can confirm, please let me know so I can post it.

Billy Nelson, class of 54, is in the hospital.

I just received a call from Barbara Nelson Cleveland, of Southaven MS, class of 51. She told me that her brother, Billy Nelson, of Memphis, class of 54, is in St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Billy has fluid on his brain and already has had one hole drilled in his head to drain that fluid. He will another hole drilled in his head today, Tuesday, August 12th. He will then be in ICU for several days. Please keep Billy and his family in your prayers.

I just received a call from Billy Key, class of 51, telling me that Joyce Bland Turner, of Collierville TN., class of 53, is in St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Joyce's husband, Ray "Buster" Turner, class of 51, has been taking Joyce to have kemo 3 times per week, and her condition has evidently gotten worse. Buster has worked with Billy Key in the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerks Office in downtown Memphis for many years. Please keep Joyce, AND Buster in your prayers during this difficult time.

Larry Yates, class of 53, mother passed away.

Allie Mae Yates, of Memphis, age 100, died Monday August 4, 2008 at St. Francis Nursing Home. Visitation will be at 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Mrs, Yates was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie D. Yates, her parents, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a son, James Larry Yates, South Side class of 53, and his wife Bobbye; four grandchildren, James Larry Yates Jr., Ronald Ray Yates, Deborah Marie Yates Champulvier and Jeffery Lawrence Yates; five great-grandchildren, and ten great-great- grandchildren.-- Memphis Funeral Home (901) 725-0100.

An email from Sherri Hall Rikard, class of 59 from Coldwater Mississippi on August 4th 2008.

My brother, Bob Hall, (class of 1960) just had back surgery last week. This is his second back surgery in the last 4 1/2 months. He is home and doing well. Bob lives in Texas City, Texas.

Barbara (Bateman) Cohn, age 68 formerly of Memphis, passed away June 22, 2008 at Life-Path Hospice in Ruskin Florida. She was preceded in death by her father, German Bateman; sister, Alice Haber; and son, Steven Curtis. She is survived by her daughters; Angela Russell-Gurung (Basanta Gurung), Karen Mooney-Crouch (Mike Crouch)., Sandra Catlett (Jonathan West), grand-sons, Alex and Hunter Kasiri: brother, William Bateman (Jo Francis). She was a loving dedicated mother and friend, and a bright light in all of our lives. Stowers-Brandon (813) 689-1211

A message from Trudy Papia Roberts, of Falkner Mississippi, class of '59 reports that Arthur Don Green, of Cookville Tennessee, class of 61 is in very serious condition. Don will have surgery today, August 4th. He has 3 blocked arteries and an aneurysm. Don's brother, Richard Green of Jonesboro Arkansas was in the class of 62 or 63. Please keep Don's family in your prayers during this bad time.

Shirley Dunnavant Ronza, class of 50, just had another stroke.

Ina McBride Hensley, class of 51, called me and told me that Shirley Dunnavant Ronza, of Hot Springs Arkansas, class of 50, just had another stroke and had to go into the hospital. She left that hospital and went into a rehab hospital. Shirley is in Hot Springs Arkansas, living with her daughter, Sharon, because she recently had a stoke and was unable to take care of herself completely. Sharon called Ina and told her about her Mother's current stroke and says that Shirley will likely have to remain in the rehab place. Shirley and Sharon both need your prayers very much.

Bonnie Watkins Hadley is going to have surgery.

Barbara Branch Simerson, class of 51, called to tell me that Bonnie Watkins Hadley, of Humboldt Tennessee, class of 51, will go into the hospital on August 12th for hip replacement surgery. When she leaves that hospital, she will enter a rehab hospital. I have no more details, but Barbara and I will try to update you if we get more details.
