Webmaster_NewsWhy is Josephus so SLOW?Posted by Josephus at 9:35, on Sunday, September 30, 2007
I know a lot of you are wondering why I don't respond to your email sooner than I do and I don't blame you! Josephus has become very slow in responding. The reason is pretty simple .... at one time the Scrapper Alumni site was the only one I had to deal with, but now I maintain over twenty other sites and it is a pretty daunting task to keep up with them all. Most people that do this sort of thing have others to help them, but I'm a one-man operation and my time has become very limited. There is also the problem with email .... I receive somewhere between 200 and 300 emails a day! I will get to you as soon as I can .... sorry about the delay.
New Scrapper Alumni Registry
In my spare time, yeah!, sure, I'm working on a new Scrapper Alumni Registry to replace the old one that has never functioned as I had hoped it would. The new one is very complicated to set up the way I want it to work, but it will be done .... it's just a matter of finding enough time to work on it. The new one won't be automatically emailing user names and passwords as the old one did and you will be able to search by any information you decide to search by; i.e., last name, first name, maiden name, class, city, state, birthday, zip code, etc. I'm going to make the attempt to move all the profiles from the old registry to the new one without any input from you .... wish me luck!
Pictures from the Classes of 61-62-63 Reunion
I had promised I would create an album for the pictures of the Classes of 61-62-63 combined reunion if someone would send them to me on a CD, but so far the only suggestion I have received is to download them one at a time from a site someone uploaded the pictures to. I'm sorry, but I just don't have the time for this sort of thing. If anyone who has access to the pictures can get them, burn them to a CD, and send them to me, I will be more than happy to create the album.

All_ScrappersClasses of '61-'62-'63 ReunionPosted by Josephus at 15:28, on Monday, September 17, 2007
Last Saturday evening (9-15-07) Terry Williamson '51 and I visited with the Classes of '61, '62, and '63 at the Olive Branch Country Club for their combined Reunion. They were packed like sardines in the dining area so we took up residence on the patio where it was a little cooler and the noise was more subdued.
Like all Scrappers, these folks really know how to babble. Very few were hidden timidly in corners .... the majority were up on their feet creating a din only experienced by combat veterans. And why not! These folks were raised in South Memphis and are part of that unique time in Memphis history that only we seem to have experienced.
Even though I'm considerably older than these '60's Scrappers, I had a wonderful time. These folks are Scrappers and I love all Scrappers and all things Scrapper. It makes no difference when they attended South Side.
I was there to distribute a gift from the Class of 1953 and in particular, Joe Tully and Robert McCaskill. Jewelry quality "Scrapper Alumni" lapel pins made using the cloisonné method. If you come to the next Piccaddilly Dinner, Robert and I will be there distributing the pins. If you are having a reunion, let me know and I'll be there to present your Class with this gift from the Class of 1953.
What is our reason for this gift? It is simply our way of showing you how much we love and appreciate all Scrappers.
One last thing. Someone asked Robert when they should wear their pin and his response was, "If you are wearing clothing .... wear it!" Wouldn't it be nice to be shopping somewhere and see a kindred spirit wearing one. Instant recognition of a Scrapper!

General_News911 - Remembering the 343Posted by Josephus at 10:58, on Wednesday, September 12, 2007
On September 11, 2001, I was doing some chore around the house when the phone rang. It was someone telling me to turn on the TV .... something awful was happening in New York! When I tuned in I saw the top of the first tower of the World Trade Center on fire. At first I didn't know that a 747 had hit it. I just knew from experience that any fire above the seventh floor of any building is extremely difficult and dangerous to fight and, much more important, extremely difficult to perform rescue operations. A firefighter's most important job is the protection of life .... rescue comes first!
As I watched I could imagine some fire company pulling out of the house and looking up at the WTC. You could see the towers from anywhere in nearby New York or New Jersey. My Lord!, the fear they must have felt .... but they went anyway! That is what firefighters do. They swallow their fear and go anyway. There are people out there that need them and they won't let them down! They go in when everyone else is coming out! Rescue is their specialty .... saving lives is their passion. There is nothing as exhilarating as being part of a rescue that has saved someone from the jaws of death. But in the case of the WTC, 343 of the courageous firefighters that responded never learned what their sacrifice accomplished.
It has been six years since that event and I still get tears in my eyes when I think about it. Occasionally I visit the FDNY Web site where the pictures of the 343 are displayed. I look at the faces and read the names. The names and faces give no indication that we are related, but they are my brothers. When a firefighter dies, part of me dies and the world is a little more drab because of it.

General_NewsTHE TOWERS OF DEATH.Posted by TerryWilliamson51 at 21:23, on Sunday, September 9, 2007
THE TOWERS OF DEATH
God bless America, God bless us all. God bless those who answered the call. The buildings were there, the towers of death. They were majestic and tall, now nothing is left. They reached to the sky, and thousands were there When death visited from high in the air. With tears in our eyes, we watched them come down. There’s a strong smell of death now in New York town. Some died as they worked, they gave their all, Like the buildings that once stood, they now stand tall. Now, what will happen, what will we do? What will your country ask of you? Have faith in our way, like the towers stand tall. We must stand together, one and all. A warning to the cowards who started this fight, You’re about to incur the wrath of our might. You made a mistake, as others have done. Just count the past wars our country has won.
YOU MADE A MISTAKE AND YOU WILL RUE THIS DAY FOREVER!

Class_of_1951Barbara Branch Simerson, class of 51, is going in the hospital!!Posted by TerryWilliamson51 at 13:29, on Thursday, September 6, 2007
I just spoke to Barbara Branch Simerson, class of 1951. Barbara is severely diabetic and has had a large part of one of her feet removed. Then, she had to go back and have a toe removed from the OTHER foot. After that, she had another toe removed from that same foot. On Tuesday September 11th, she will return to Baptist East Hospital for more surgery on that same foot. When they removed the last toe, one doctor wanted to remove the toe, another doctor wanted to remove the entire foot and another doctor wanted to remove her entire leg, so there is no telling what they will do this time. Barbara is in a wheel chair now and there is no way to know just what will have to be done. Please keep Barbara in your thoughts and prayers. If you would like to send her a card or speak to her on the phone she is at 838 North Perkins, Memphis TN 38122 and her phone number is (901) 638-6695
